Outside In shows Jane Watt's new series of site-specific photographs at Eleven Spitalfields in Princelet Street, London E1. Over the course of several months artist Jane Watt has visited houses in the immediate Spitalfields area and taken photographs through windows of different domestic and commercial buildings. The photographs capture new vantage points of familiar public landmarks, urban architecture and streets. The images also reveal relationships between internal and external spaces in this vibrant and diverse area.
The series of photographs are printed in one colour onto Perspex and backed with dichroic film. The film gives a subtle variation in colour and reaection of light as the viewer moves around the gallery.
Jane Watt has made installations and site-specific work in the public realm for over fourteen years. She has exhibited widely including Café Gallery, Crafts Council, Dominic Berning, London, Buzzer Thirty, New York, Harris Museum, Preston and Varberg Museum, Sweden. She has had solo exhibitions at the Economist, London, Aspex Gallery, Portsmouth and Damasquine Gallery, Brussels. Jane has completed a number of temporary and permanent commissions including: Reflectagon a temporary camera obscura for Westonbirt Arboretum, Gloucestershire; Postcard Journey and Button Wall for the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital Art Project which won a Saltire Award for Art and Architecture in 2005; A Taste of Summer a temporary light installation/performance for Forces of Light Festival, Helsinki and Star Gazing a permanent installation at Edinburgh Dental Institute. She is currently working on a permanent commission for Land Securities and Christ's College Cambridge, Wall of Letters, a large glass wall for a new public thoroughfare in Cambridge.
