Ian Harper is a master in interpreting the atmosphere in his painting.
Many of the works shown in this exhibition are inspired by the landscape of “les Corbières” in southern France.
Although they are not an interpretation of what he sees but of what he feels, the paintings attempt to evoke the atmosphere rather than describe a place.
Ian’s work and vision are based on memories / emotion like a filter of his view of the world.
“I will often see the paintings ‘by accident’, catching a glimpse of an image in the surface of a wet table or the oil on the road…”
Ian Harper studied ?ne art at London’s Slade School. He began image making 30 yrs ago with etching and drawing.
He lives and works between London and “les Corbières” in the south of France where he has a studio.
Ian Harper has worked in Europe and North America and exhibited paintings in London and Dublin.
