Photomonth, East London Photography Festival

A photographic lightbox montage in a series of four large windows at the Box Gallery as part of Photomonth East London Photography Festival taking place in October & November 2009. The work is inspired by the local area and explores its interweaving layers of time and history.

The photographs highlight places that usually pass unnoticed and reveal subtleties of everyday experience in the city. Traces and ambiguous markers of our presence imposed on the landscape create a texture of time out of a projection of fleeting moments. The memory embodied in these places reveals a journey from the physical into a personal world; the images reflect a sense of both absence and desire. The work through different forms of reproduction and processing explores the transient nature of both the subject matter and the photograpic image.

Morning After Dreams, 2009 Marta Bakst has studied at the Slade School of Fine Art and Chelsea College of Art in London and has continued to make work and show in exhibitions in London.
