The Transition series of images symbolise Carol Sharp’s journey through the literal into abstraction, where she explores our connections with nature on a deeper level.
Oscillating between and co-existing as physical and abstract realities, faded stalks of reed join their ambiguous reflections in the water. This is where they will eventually return and disintegrate, before re-emerging, once again re-enacting their perennial metamorphosis.
The images contemplate concepts such as everything being in the process of becoming something else, the dissolution from linear to holistic thinking and the timeless continuity of nature.
Award winning photographer Carol Sharp has been creating inspiring images of plants over the last 14 years. Her work has been widely shown, in sizes from 15 feet high in Guy’s Hospital to 1 inch square on Royal Mail stamps.
Reeds are a sustainable resource, a natural building material and important in natural water purification.
